Level crossing signs
Drivers of large or slow vehicles must stop and telephone before using an automatic railway or tramway crossing
What it means
Long, wide, heavy or slow vehicles must phone the signal operator and get permission before crossing. This plate shows an older set of figures; the regulations now set the limits at over 18.75m (61ft 6in) long, over 2.9m (9ft 6in) wide, over 44 tonnes, or unable to cross at more than 5mph. That won't be your car, but if a sign tells you to phone for permission to cross, you MUST - and phone again once you are clear if asked to.
