  1. I keep getting the stopping distance questions wrong. Do I have to memorise the whole table?

  2. Mostly not. Stopping distance is thinking distance plus braking distance, and the two move for different reasons. Your reaction time barely changes, so thinking distance rises in step with speed. Braking distance climbs a good deal faster than that.

  3. So when a question changes the driver - tired, distracted, had a drink - it is thinking distance that grows. When it changes the road - wet, icy, worn tyres - it is braking distance. That gets you most of them without the table.

  4. that actually makes sense. can I try one?

  5. Of course. I will write you one on exactly that - my own question, not a DVSA one.
