Road works and temporary
Vehicular traffic should proceed slowly owing to workforce in the road
What it means
People are working on foot in the live road, not safely behind cones. Drop your speed well before you reach them and hold it steady past the works — no late braking alongside them. Stay out of the coned-off area completely and give the working space as much room as your lane allows.
Highway Code Rule 288 — read it on GOV.UK
