Temporary sudden change in level of carriageway surface
What it means
The surface steps up or drops away sharply, usually where a lane has been planed off ready for resurfacing. Slow down before you reach it, not on it, and cross it square with the steering settled. Hit it fast or at an angle and you can unsettle the car or damage a tyre or wheel.
