Road markings
School zigzag markings (SCHOOL KEEP CLEAR)
What it means
Yellow zigzag lines with the words SCHOOL KEEP CLEAR along the kerb outside a school entrance. Keep this stretch clear of stationary vehicles, even if you are picking up or setting down children - the markings are there so that children crossing can see and be seen. Where an upright sign shows a prohibition of stopping, you MUST NOT wait, park, or stop to set down and pick up passengers on the markings during the times shown (Rule 238). Similar yellow zigzags are used outside some hospitals and fire, police and ambulance stations.
