Double white lines (both solid)

Double white lines (both solid)

What it means

Two solid white lines down the middle of the road, used to prevent overtaking where visibility is restricted. The line nearer to you is solid, so you MUST NOT cross or straddle it unless it is safe and you need to enter adjoining premises or a side road (Rule 129). You may cross it if necessary, provided the road is clear, to pass a stationary vehicle, or to overtake a pedal cycle, horse or road maintenance vehicle travelling at 10 mph or less. You MUST NOT stop or park here either, except to pick up or set down passengers, or to load or unload goods (Rule 240).
