Speed limit signs
Maximum speed limit of 20 miles per hour
What it means
The red ring means 20 mph is the legal maximum here - you MUST NOT go faster, whatever the traffic around you is doing. Unlike a 20 zone there may be no humps to slow you, so the sign and its repeaters are your only cue. Typical in town centres and outside schools; check your speedo as you pass.
