Road markings
Hatched markings (diagonal white stripes)
What it means
White diagonal stripes painted in the road, here bordered by broken white lines. They separate lanes of traffic or protect traffic waiting to turn right. Where the area is bordered by a broken white line, as in this picture, you should not enter it unless it is necessary and you can see that it is safe to do so (Rule 130). Watch for the stricter version: chevrons bordered by a solid white line, which you MUST NOT enter except in an emergency.
