Drivers should check their distance from the vehicle in front
What it means
A prompt to look hard at the gap between you and the car in front. You will meet it on stretches where tailgating causes shunts. Leave at least a two-second gap on a fast road and double it in the wet. It is advice rather than law, but that gap is what buys you time.
