What it means
Each bar counts down 100 yards, so a single bar means the roundabout or exit is 100 yards away. Green marks a primary route; motorways use blue ones before a slip road. Your mirrors, lane and speed should already be sorted by the three-bar marker - at this one you are just easing off, not braking hard.
