Tidal flow lane control

Lane control signal indicating that vehicles may not proceed along the lane directly beneath the signal

Lane control signal indicating that vehicles may not proceed along the lane directly beneath the signal sign

What it means

A red cross above your lane means that lane is closed to you, often because it has been handed to traffic coming the other way. Move out of it into a lane showing a green arrow before you reach the signal. You MUST NOT drive on past a red cross in that lane, and the closure only lifts when the signal changes - a white diagonal arrow is telling you to move over, not that the lane ahead is clear.
