Privacy policy
Last updated: 6 October 2026
This policy explains what personal data the Driving Mastery Test Routes app ("the app") uses, and how, on iPhone and on Android phones. It covers the app only; the Driving Mastery website has its own privacy policy.
Who we are
Driving Mastery Ltd, registered in England and Wales under company number 17324361. Registered office: 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JQ. We are responsible for any personal data described here. Contact: support@drivingmastery.co.uk.
In short
The app has no accounts or sign-in, shows no advertising, and contains no analytics or tracking. We do not sell or share personal data. Nothing you do in the app is sent to us.
Your location
When you start a drive, the app uses your phone's location to follow you along the route and give each direction at the right place. Your location is used on your phone only. It is not sent to us or to anyone else, and it is not kept after the drive.
The app asks for permission the first time you start a drive. While a drive is running, it keeps following your location with the screen locked, and your phone shows that it is doing so: an iPhone shows that location is in use, and an Android phone shows a notification for as long as the drive runs. You can change or withdraw permission at any time in your phone's settings: on an iPhone, in Settings, under Privacy & Security, then Location Services; on an Android phone, in Settings, under Apps, then Driving Mastery, then Permissions. Without it, you can still view the routes and simulate a drive.
Downloading test centres
When you download a test centre, and when the app checks for updates to the centres on your phone (at most every six hours, when the app is opened), your phone connects to our file server. As with any download, the server receives your phone's internet (IP) address and basic technical details, such as the app's version and your phone's software version. These are used only to deliver the files, and we do not keep them. No account, name or identifier is sent.
Our file server is run for us by a hosting provider, which receives the same information in order to deliver the files and processes it under a contract with us. We rely on our legitimate interest in providing the app to process it.
Route feedback
At the end of a drive the app asks whether the route was accurate. Your answer, any directions you mark and any note you write are saved on your phone only. They are not sent to us.
Settings
The app saves your choices, such as distance units and the test centre you last viewed, on your phone so they are kept between visits. They are not sent to us.
Crash reports
On an iPhone: if you have chosen to share analytics with app developers in your iPhone's Settings (Privacy & Security, then Analytics & Improvements), Apple may send us a report when the app crashes. If you install a test version through Apple's TestFlight, Apple sends us its crash reports whatever this setting says.
On an Android phone: if you installed the app from Google Play and have chosen to share usage and diagnostics data with Google, Google may send us a report when the app crashes or stops responding.
A report describes the state of the app, your phone's model and its software version at the time; it does not identify you. Apple and Google provide these reports under their own privacy policies.
How long data is kept
Everything the app saves stays on your phone until you delete the app, which removes it. A downloaded test centre can also be removed from the Test centres list. We hold no personal data from the app, so there is nothing for us to keep or delete.
If your phone is backed up (an iPhone to iCloud or a computer, an Android phone to your Google account), your settings and route feedback are included in its backups, which Apple, Google or your computer keep for you. We cannot see them.
Children
The app is for learner drivers and the people who teach and accompany them. It collects no personal data from anyone, of any age.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to access, correct and delete your personal data, to restrict or object to its use, and to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk). As the app does not send us personal data, we do not normally hold any about you from it. To ask about your data, or to exercise a right, email support@drivingmastery.co.uk.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be shown in the app with the date it was updated.
